BEST SCENES

ALLIED - prisoner interrogation and escape (not gif-ed below): Extremely thrilling and Brad Pitt (once again) gets to be a badass.

ASSASSIN’S CREED - second 1492 fight: Probably the only good scene in this whole damn movie. It's straight out of the video game and exactly what I wanted from the rest of the film.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - Airport Brawl: THIS was the culmination of the 12 MCU movies that came before it. Every fight/coupling is extremely well thought out, and it's like watching my child fantasies play out.

DOCTOR STRANGE - The Ancient One lightning scene (not gif-ed below): No spoilers here, but I cried at the beauty of the scene and the writing. That's all.

DOCTOR STRANGE - "Open your mind": Visually imaginative. Even more incredible in IMAX 3D.

LA LA LAND - Sebastian at the restaurant: Gosling is so good at playing the pain and longing of a struggling musician and lets it all go in his piano solo.

LA LA LAND - Finale: One of the best sequences I've ever seen, especially because of my connection with this movie and what it means to me, specifically this wishful sequence.. Couldn't stop crying the first time I saw this movie, and still shed a tear the four subsequent times.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN - final battle: Another one of those great action sequences in an okay movie. Almost made up for the rest of the movie. Almost.

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA - "Not the freezer!": No spoilers, but it's absolutely heartbreaking when Lucas Hedges' character breaks down. This will probably be the scene on his Oscar night reel.

MOONLIGHT - first act table scene (not gif-ed below): More heartbreaking stuff. So damn real, I forgot that I was watching a movie.

THE NICE GUYS - the party: Some of the best jokes of this hilarious film are all here. Definitely the best sequence in a great, undersign movie.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY - the final act: No spoilers, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKIN' BOUT.

SILENCE - Rodrigues and Ferreira finally meet (not gif-ed below): Just a really well acted scene that gives Garfield so much to do; he should've been nominated for this scene alone.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE - Magneto & family in the forest: One of the only great scenes in this okay movie. Definitely the only time I cried. So much potential. Ugh.

WORST MOMENTS

THE ACCOUNTANT - JK Simmons' exposition dump (not gif-ed below): I was totally with this movie until this scene. This could've been handled so much better, and it just made me sad that JK Simmons was stuck with this.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE - Wonder Woman’s theme: Hot take, Wonder Woman's theme is horrible. It's grinding and gross. Yes, she is badass and she deserves fitting theme music, but it's just annoying as all hell.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE - “Why did you say that name?!”: I don't care about spoiling this. I laughed in the theater. I just can't believe this was allowed to happen.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM - the final reveal (not gif-ed due to spoilers...): No spoilers, but a  sad waste of a great actor who turned in THE best performance of the film, all in favor of someone I'm just not excited about. Hopefully my mind will be changed with the planned four sequels.

FINDING DORY - Hank driving a truck (not gif-ed below): Again, I was with this movie and loved the trademark Pixar emotionality, until Hank started driving a damn truck, which is when this movie went from a beautiful, heartfelt story to being slapsticky and obnoxious.

SUICIDE SQUAD - final fight: The cherry on top of a horribly maddening movie. The Squad had to fight a dancing witch. I was angry.

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE - final reveal: Loved this movie overall, but I just wish the movie ended right after she leaves the bunker, and whatever happens after is explored in a later movie in the Cloverfield Universe.

MOST UNSETTLING/INTENSE SCENES

DEEPWATER HORIZON - the whole movie: Ho, boy.

ELLE - opening scene (not gif-ed below): Mentally and emotionally disturbing.

HACKSAW RIDGE - first contact: An intense shock to the soldiers' (and audience's) system.

THE HATEFUL EIGHT - Chapter 4: Domergue's Got a Secret: This whole chapter is so well acted and butt-clenching.

NOCTURNAL ANIMALS - a game of chicken on the freeway: Tense and disturbing. Once the movie stayed with this whole sequence for half as long as it did, that's when I realized how much I loved it.

PATRIOTS DAY - the bombing: Hard to watch because of its respect for accuracy of the actual event.

SULLY - plane landing: See above.

MOST DISLIKED PERFORMANCES

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM - Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne)

SUICIDE SQUAD - Enchantress (Cara Delevingne)

SUICIDE SQUAD - Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)

SUICIDE SQUAD - Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman)

WARCRAFT - Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer)

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE - Psylocke (Olivia Munn)

^I hate you all.^
